Once filled with ladders and paint cans, this narrow strip behind a remodeled San Francisco carriage house is now the glowing heart of this family's home.

We used repurposed lumber for walls and raised beds which, combined with bright, warm accents, creates a soulful sanctuary that spills through French doors off the adjacent family room. Vertical plants with creamy variegated foliage brighten what was a dark corridor, contrasting cheerfully with the dark and weathered wood, and have turned this space into a favorite part of the home.
